The Problem

What started as an exterior rot repair revealed significant hidden damage inside the existing porch columns. Once the affected areas were opened, we discovered four deteriorated structural posts—two supporting the porch roof and two supporting the room above.

The Repair

We installed heavy-duty temporary shoring to safely support the structure, removed the deteriorated materials and damaged posts, and inspected the existing concrete foundations. The foundations were in good condition, allowing us to install four new pressure-treated 6x6 structural posts with proper bases and connections. We preserved the existing stonework, rebuilt the affected column areas, and installed custom metal flashing before completing the caulking and paint.

The Result

The hidden rot and structural damage were addressed while preserving the original stonework and appearance of the home. The completed columns now have new structural support, improved protection from moisture, custom metal flashing, and a clean finished appearance.
